A magical first date, indeed. We discovered a mysterious tome while exploring the hidden attic of a nearby abandoned asylum. We opened the strange text full of ornate symbols, diagrams, and incantations. One page caught our eye—a sketch of an unusual looking creature. We spoke the words, instantly and unwittingly calling forth an enormous black cat, which seemed to fill the entire room—an enchanting beast with shimmering jet-black fur and luminous green eyes. She didn’t speak, but somehow her voice echoed in our minds. Her name was Lucipurr, she was from a distant planet, with the power to possess those who summon her with music. She called upon Kevin, now Turbo, to pick up the guitar, and Gina, now Gatto, for artillery rhythms on the drums. The music: gritty garage rock and roll about cats. Cat Rock.
Live Shows
Turbo Gatto has played several shows in the Greater Columbia, SC area, including Art Bar, The Infinite Room at Tapp's Art Center, REDS on Augusta, Drip Coffee, and Bunky's Tavern.
Warren Moore (Professor Mondo), who plays drums for the fantastic garage rock outfit The Berries, from Newberry, SC wrote two brief reviews of our shows at the Art Bar (reprinted with permission):
December 26, 2015: "the guitar/drums man/woman lineup provoked comparisons to the White Stripes, but the music was energetic without being derivative....Their 7-song set went too quickly."
March 19, 2016: "they rose above a broken guitar string and delivered an exciting, high-energy set of cat-themed rock that somehow crunches too hard to be twee -- they sing about catnip like Iggy sang about smack....If you get a chance, join them for a "Kitty Pizza Party."
